Flamin' Hot Takis Combo

by Emma, Jordan, Ava, and Grace
Feb 2015

GRACE

The day was Friday, February 27, 2015. The weather was nice and partly cloudy. The temperature was a high of 78 and a low of 50.There was a little wind in the air. The perfect day for a rocket launch.

EMMA

I packed the payload with tissues and Styrofoam peanuts. After I picked out the materials with my partner, Ava, we put them in and packed them down. Then we put our egg, Spick, in and we tested it by dropping and shaking the tube. We were good to go!

JORDAN

The build was difficult. The instructions were hard to understand. Putting the the fins in our rocket, "The Flamin' Hot Takis Combo", was slightly difficult. The fins didn't want to go in the slots! It was like a puzzle for me and my mission specialist, Grace. We had to put this in this and that in that. So in order for Grace and I to put the fins in the rocket was to use glue. The reason why we used glue is because first of all, the glue was slippery enough to slide the fins in, and second of all is that we won't have to glue it on later. Also the wiring was very hard as well. I would of finished the wiring after an hour if it weren't Grace. Getting it into the slot was hard. But the most complicated thing to do for me was packing the parachute. But my group helped me with that. Now that the rocket building is done, it's time to launch our rocket!

AVA

10:00am my group and I walked down to the 1, 2, 3 grade field. There was a big table with a box of launching equipment. Mrs. Masci told us to stay behind the table because if the rocket went out of control it might hit us! We named our astronaut Spick because we combined spice and kick together. Mr. Phillips helped us launch the rockets hard work lots of hard work. We worked on these rockets for two and a half days I believe I did not really count but I know it was about that much. Our rocket The Flamin' Hot Takis Combo, Launched 44 feet into the sky. That is really high! Spick survived and we are so so so happy! We had to study the sun, Rockets, and our Solar System to know how rockets actually launch. Maybe one day in fifth grade you can launch a rocket yourself?
