One of the most challenging launch days. Lots of mis-fires with Mrs. Mitchell's class as well as parachutes not opening. We repacked the parachutes, and that problem was solved. The mis-fires continued with Mrs. Bode's class, and the Altitrack disappeared for awhile and was eventually found in the middle of the field. We eventually launched all the rockets in Mrs Bode's class. However, the launch controller stopped working when we tried to launch the first rocket with Mrs. Voris' class. The wire to one of the alligator clips was slowly breaking under the electrical tape (hence the misfires), and finally came all the way off when we tried to launch the first rocket in Mrs Voris' class. However, the students, teachers, parents and volunteers were all great sports with all the delays and issues. It was a tough launch day, but also a lot of fun!

TARC 2009 at Arcadia High School
Ten AHS students embarked on a challenge to win the TARC (Team America Rocketry Challenge) competition for 2009 (www.rocketcontest.org). Participation was limited to the first 750 teams who registered by Monday, December 1, 2008. The contest objectives were to design, build and fly a one-stage model rocket that reaches an altitude of 750 feet, stays aloft for 45 seconds, and returns 1 raw egg unbroken. The egg must be placed in the rocket perpendicular to the direction of flight. We built two rockets and had many successful launches in Rainbow Valley. We missed qualifying for the national launch-off by 0.1 points!
